The ruins
of the capital city and surrounding wall of the Peul empire
of Macina
lie some 30 kilometres from Mopti .
This empire was founded in 1810 by Sékou Amadou, considered as
a saint man.
It dominated a great part of actual Mali.
It was extended by Sékou Amadou's son : Amadou Sékou,
then by his grandson : Amadou Amadou
before being blown up by El Hadj Oumar Tall en 1862.
The sight the site offers on the neighbouring landscape is magnificent.
